I took a leap of faith and started my VA business at the same time I left my corporate marketing job. I had been searching for a way to work from home, make the schedule I want, do the work I want, and earn the pay that I desired. Hitting all those points does not come easy, but with some hard work it is so doable!
So are you looking to dive into the influencer virtual assistant world? It is definitely a fun place and always in need of new help! I was so excited when I first dived into the industry, but there were a few things I wish I had known beforehand!
Let’s get into a few things I wish I had known before I started my journey.
You Gotta Put Yourself Out There Starting Out
When it comes to getting your first clients you have to put yourself out there. Sending emails, posting on socials, reaching out to those you follow, etc. Selling comes with practically every entrepreneur journey, but it is easy to forget about when you have your eyes on all those dollar signs!
If reaching out to people isn’t your thing, I would recommend joining an agency that gives you clients. I am actually currently working on setting my agency up in that format, so feel free to send me an email if you’re looking for clients! (billington.kate@yahoo.com).
I also have several posts and a course on how to find clients! You can find that here.
You Don’t Need A Lot to Get Started
I have taken a few courses before, and they always come with this long list of paid tools and apps to get. When I started the only thing I paid for was Canva. And I can honestly say, that is really the only thing you need!
Over the years, I have added a few apps. One for downloading videos without watermarks, a subscription for invoicing, a notes app, photoshop (for when I feel fancy, and a video editing platform. Those are all things you can definitely live without tho!
Invoices are easy to create of google doc, notebooks work great for keeping track of to-do lists, and google drive is great for keeping everything in one place!
Be Realistic With What You Want
One of the key things to get straight before you start your journey is to figure out exactly what you want your work to look like. Is this a weekends only gig? A full 40 hour week job? Figure out what days you want to work, hours you want to work, services you want to offer, and then have all those things in mind when talking to your future client.
Starting your journey with your ideal schedule is the perfect way to make sure you keep you and your client happy.
Nothing is worse than diving into work overpromising on hours you can work or services you can do and then falling short of your clients expectations.
Set your dream system and then fit people into it. You will thank yourself later!!
You’ll Never Want to Go Back to Your 9-5
I am absolutely in love with this world.
Working for yourself definitely has a lot of challenges, but it is amazing to ultimately be your own boss. You no longer have to do tasks you don’t want to, and actually set a pay that makes you feel good!
